This time of year so many of us have a special occasion coming up, be it a wedding, communion, confirmation or other event to dress up for.
But wading through the rails for that something special can leave us totally deflated. We all want to keep up with current fashion trends and this can find us trying on clothes that are too tight, too short, too revealing, too young, completely the wrong colour (hello orange and lime!) or simply just not us. We tell ourselves we'll lose a few pounds, wear industrial strength spanx and slap on more fake tan to make an outfit work. But what's the point in suffering through the trauma of wearing something we can't move, breathe or relax in when it could even ruin our special day.
Of course we want to look amazing (don't we all!) but mostly, our outfitshould make us feel good. So one of the top criteria I look for when dressing my clients is comfort.
Designer Donna Karan once famously said, "I believe in comfort. If you don't feel comfortable in your clothes, it's hard to think of anything else." If you've ever mistakenly worn that gorgeous but ultra-binding dress to a long event, you understand the importance of this mantra.
Because the reality is, when you're mom at your son or daughter's communion or confirmation, you need a dress that allows you walk, sit, be happy around your kids and host the party afterwards without irritating or distracting you. And when you're at a wedding, you'll want to be able to dance.
The easiest way to feel more comfortable in your outfit is to buy clothes that fit you and don't need uncomfortable underwear to make them look good. Opt less for styles that are trendy and more for ones that flatter you.
With all that in mind, I put together a round-up of dresses I love in the shops right now. Tried and tested, they each combine comfort with style and will leave you feeling confident and attractive for your special day.
Thanks for reading, hopefully I've given you a few ideas. And if you are struggling to find something fab (and comfy!!) for an occasion you have coming up, I'd be delighted to help - I'm only a phonecall away!
